A Commitment to Conservation

Grassland Restoration

Over-grazing has significantly depleted the grass coverage of the land to be acquired. Allowing for seasonal migration of game rather than intensive livestock over-grazing will over time restore grass coverage to create a significant new carbon sink. The new reserve will establish a baseline and measure grass coverage and carbon capture over time.

The reserve aims to adopt best practices from other grassland carbon measurement projects and will liaise with The Nature Conservancy to adopt best practices. The project will also help protect the existing National Park and NamibRand Nature Reserve to function and adapt in the face of increasing droughts brought on by climate change.

The NamibRand Conservation Trust

The NamibRand Conservation Trust was established in March 2020 in order to facilitate the acquisition of land for conservation and to raise funds for the Environment.
