A Commitment to Conservation

Biomass Increase

The establishment of the NamibRand Nature Reserve significantly increased biomass on the reserve. This is measured annually across the entire ecosystem. Whilst the biomass increases or decreases in accordance with rainfall – and has fallen due to the last 7 years of acute drought – overall re-establishing historic grazing significantly increases biomass.

Taking down fences will also allow game to move to where grass coverage is better and avoid the large numbers of animals killed by fences.

The NamibRand Conservation Trust

The NamibRand Conservation Trust was established in March 2020 in order to facilitate the acquisition of land for conservation and to raise funds for the Environment.
